Home set wooden door installation process and precautions (must know)

<

Many homeowners prefer to install doors themselves, but they often lack the knowledge of the proper installation process and key precautions. To help, Jiuzheng Building Materials Co., Ltd. has put together a detailed guide on door installation, covering all the essential steps and things to watch out for.

The door installation process typically involves several main stages: installing the door frame, positioning the door opening, and finally inserting the door leaf into place. Following these steps carefully ensures a smooth and professional result.

Key Points to Consider During Door Installation:

1. Check the door opening size to ensure it meets the installation requirements. If not, make necessary adjustments before proceeding.

2. Unpack the door components and inspect the door frame, door cover lines, threshold strips, and sealing materials to ensure everything is intact and properly aligned.

3. Assemble the door frame by gluing the mullion and horizontal frame together, then securing them with self-tapping screws for stability.

4. Position the door frame within the doorway using wooden wedges for initial support. Adjust vertical alignment and level using the wedges, ensuring that the gap between the door frame and door leaf is around 2.5–3 mm on each side, and the door leaf sits 5–8 mm above the floor.

5. Apply foam insulation between the door frame and wall. Before filling, clean the wall surface and moisten it slightly. Use a blade to trim any excess foam for a neat finish.

6. After the foam has cured (usually 4–6 hours), remove the temporary supports and apply glue inside the door frame. Insert the door sleeve wire and gently tap it into place to ensure a tight fit against the wall.

7. Install the door leaf, making sure it opens in the correct direction. Attach the hardware and check that the gap between the door leaf and frame is consistent, allowing for smooth operation.

Installation Method for the Door Frame

1. Unpack the entire door set and check all parts, including the top frame (823±1 mm long), side frames (2.1 m long), door cover lines, front and back door frame lines, threshold strips, door stop lines, fixed iron pieces, expansion screws, and wood screws.

2. The two side frames come pre-drilled with 9×18 mm steps and small holes for wood screw installation. On the sides, countersunk holes are available for expansion screws. Once aligned, secure the top and side frames with wood screws.

3. Place a temporary wooden square underneath the door frame to help maintain its vertical alignment during installation.

Method for Installing the Door Opening

1. Insert the assembled door frame into the opening and adjust the gaps on both sides and at the top using wooden wedges to straighten the frame.

2. If using expansion screws, drill holes in the wall and align them with the side frame. Secure the screws tightly. If using fixed iron pieces, drill holes, insert the iron pieces, and fasten with self-tapping screws.

3. Fill the space between the door frame and the wall with either styrofoam or cement slurry for a secure fit.

4. Once the filler material is dry, remove the temporary wooden supports and trim any protruding wedges.

5. Apply universal glue to attach the front and back door frame lines. Cut the corners at a 45-degree angle for a seamless look. The front frame line is typically 70 mm wide, while the rear can be 100 mm, 150 mm, or 250 mm, depending on the design.

6. Use universal glue to attach the door lines into the specially designed 3 mm wide and 30 mm deep grooves on the door frame. Adjust the depth based on the wall thickness. When joining, cut the corners at a 45-degree angle for a neat joint.

7. Fasten the door lines to the frame using a nail gun. Press the entry line buckle and threshold strip into place, ensuring the fixed door stop line covers the seam between the front and rear frame lines. Again, cut the corners at a 45-degree angle when connecting.

8. Finally, use Bi Lizhu to clean up the construction area. Once the door is properly installed, you can move on to the next stage of your project.
