Home set wooden door installation process and precautions (must know)

<

Many homeowners prefer to install their doors themselves, but they often lack the necessary knowledge about the installation process and important safety considerations. To help, Jiuzheng Building Materials Co., Ltd. has provided a detailed guide on how to properly install a door, covering all key steps and essential precautions.

The installation of a door typically involves several main stages: installing the door frame, positioning the door opening, and finally fitting the door leaf into place. Following these steps carefully ensures a smooth and secure installation.

Important Tips for Door Installation:

1. Before starting, check the size of the door opening to ensure it matches the required dimensions. If not, make any necessary adjustments to the wall or opening.

2. Carefully unpack the door components and inspect each part—such as the door frame, trim, sealing strips, and hardware—to ensure everything is intact and fits properly.

3. Assemble the door frame by applying adhesive to the joints and securing them with screws. This ensures a strong and stable structure before placement.

4. Position the door frame within the opening using wooden wedges to hold it in place. Adjust the vertical alignment and level using the wedges, ensuring that the gap between the door frame and door leaf is around 2.5–3mm on each side, and the door leaf sits 5–8mm above the floor.

5. Once the frame is in position, fill the space between the frame and the wall with expanding foam. Make sure to clean the wall surface first and moisten it slightly before applying the foam for better adhesion.

6. After the foam has cured (usually 4–6 hours), remove the temporary supports and apply glue inside the frame. Insert the door jamb strip and gently tap it into place so that it aligns with the wall surface.

7. Finally, install the door leaf, making sure the hinges are correctly positioned and the door opens and closes smoothly. Check the clearance between the door and frame to meet design specifications.

Step-by-Step Door Frame Installation:

1. Unpack the entire door set and check all parts: top rail (823±1mm), side rails (2.1m), door trim, front and back frame lines, threshold strip, door stop, fixed metal pieces, expansion screws, and wood screws.

2. The side frames already have pre-drilled holes for fixing with wood screws or expansion bolts. Align the top and side frames carefully and secure them with screws to maintain stability.

3. Place a temporary wooden square underneath the frame to help adjust its vertical alignment and ensure it’s square before final installation.

Door Opening Installation Method:

1. Insert the assembled door frame into the opening and use wooden wedges to adjust the gaps on both sides and the top. Ensure the frame is straight and even.

2. If using expansion screws, drill into the wall to match the pre-drilled holes on the side frame and secure them. For fixed metal plates, align the holes and fasten with self-tapping screws.

3. Fill the gap between the door frame and the wall with either foam or cement slurry for insulation and structural support.

4. Once the filler has dried, remove the temporary wooden supports and cut off any excess wedges protruding from the frame.

5. Apply universal glue to attach the front and back door frame lines, cutting the corners at 45 degrees for a neat finish. The front frame line is usually 70mm, while the rear can be 100mm, 150mm, or 250mm depending on the model.

6. Use the same glue to attach the door trim into the 3mm wide and 30mm deep groove on the frame. Adjust the depth based on the wall thickness. Again, cut the corners at 45 degrees when joining pieces.

7. Secure the trim with a nail gun, then press the entry line buckle and threshold bar into place. The door stop should sit neatly over the joint between the front and back frame lines.

8. Clean up any leftover materials or debris with Bi Lizhu or a similar cleaner. Once everything is in place, you’re ready to proceed with the next step—installing the door leaf.
