Cool! Motorcycle riding a plane feeling low altitude aircraft

Aircraft and helicopters are expensive and complex to operate, making them inaccessible for most people who dream of experiencing flight. However, California-based Aerofex has introduced the Aero-X, a subscription-based flying vehicle that resembles a futuristic suspension device from *Star Wars*. Priced at $85,000, it was expected to be delivered in 2017, with a $5,000 deposit required to reserve one. Though $85,000 is not cheap, early adopters often overlook the cost. If the marketing claims hold true, the Aero-X can lift up to 140 kg and hover 3.7 meters above the ground, reaching speeds of up to 72 km/h. This unique design is based on a "fan" principle, similar to hovercraft technology. In 2012, Aerofex first showcased a prototype featuring a bicycle-like frame and two large fans. The commercial version, the Aero-X, was planned for flight testing in 2016. It uses a lightweight carbon fiber chassis weighing just 356 kg and is powered by a three-cylinder engine. It can carry two passengers and reach speeds of 72 km/h. While the Aero-X website doesn't mention noise levels, the operation of such a vehicle is likely to be quite loud. A full fuel tank allows for about 85 minutes of flight time, and the vehicle can take off and land vertically (VTOL), offering greater flexibility. Theoretically, attaching large fans to a motorcycle frame sounds simple, but creating a safe, fun, and easy-to-control flying vehicle is extremely challenging. Most open-runner devices are unstable and require highly skilled operators. Controlling such a machine is complex, requiring constant adjustments to balance forces, making even basic movements like turning or tilting difficult. Aerofex claims to have solved the "coupling problem" and has patented their solution. If successful, the Aero-X could be the first truly safe and user-friendly flying vehicle on the market. Aerofex envisions the Aero-X as a versatile personal flight option, allowing users to travel almost anywhere—deserts, fields, lakes, rivers, and more. After consulting with the Federal Aviation Administration, they classified the vehicle as an "ATV," eliminating the need for a pilot's license. Beyond recreation, industries like agriculture, law enforcement, and the military have shown interest in purchasing the Aero-X, signaling potential for broader applications in the future.
