High-rise offices hold high-level firefighting fire drills
At 10 a.m. on the 15th, a fire alarm was triggered at Lujiang Road, setting off a large-scale fire drill at the Xiamen Fortune Center — the tallest building in Fujian Province. The high-rise structure, standing at 192 meters, became the focus of the exercise when a simulated fire broke out on the 17th floor of one of its companies. The flames quickly spread to the main building, reaching the 34th floor and trapping two individuals in the "fire zone."
The Xiamen Fire Department responded swiftly, deploying 26 fire trucks and over 150 firefighters. Among the equipment used was a top-tier fire engine capable of delivering water up to 300 meters, making it a key part of the operation. Teams worked efficiently to locate and rescue two people who were found unconscious on the 17th and 34th floors, safely evacuating them to secure areas.
Outside the building, 55-meter and 32-meter ladder trucks extended their work platforms, using high-pressure hoses to control the spread of the "fire" from the exterior. Firefighters also utilized high-level water delivery systems, pumping water directly to the top of the building through powerful pumps. With coordinated efforts from multiple units, the "large fire" was eventually brought under control and fully extinguished.
This drill aimed to test the city’s emergency response capabilities, particularly for high-rise fires, ensuring that firefighters are well-prepared for real-life situations. It highlighted the importance of advanced technology, teamwork, and quick decision-making in such critical scenarios.
