Earthquake Rescue Manual-After the Earthquake (2)

<

People with special needs: people with disabilities

Before the earthquake:

* Write down all specific needs, disabilities and related abilities related to yourself, as well as the medicines you are taking. Put a copy of this list in your pocket or wallet.
* Seek help from other people (spouse, roommate, friend, neighbor, relative or colleague) in response to an emergency.

Give them the list you made. You can provide them with a spare key to your residence, or let them know where to find the key in the event of an emergency.

During the earthquake:

* If you are in a wheelchair, please try to avoid under the door or corner of the wall, lock the wheelchair, and protect your head with your arm. Please remove the parts of the wheelchair that may harm you.
* If you can move, please hide under a sturdy table and chair. Keep away from external walls, windows, fireplaces and hanging objects.
* If you are on a bed or seat and cannot move, please use blankets and pillows to protect yourself from falling objects.
* If you are outdoors, please walk to an open area, away from trees, telephone poles and buildings.

After the earthquake:

* If you are trapped, please try to send out various distress signals to attract others' attention.
* Turn on battery-powered TV or radio to receive information and instructions about emergency incidents.
* If you are capable, please do your best to help others.

Children's needs

Fear is the normal reaction when faced with danger. After the earthquake, children will be scared of injury, death, or memories. They are afraid to be separated from their families or to be alone. Children may consider disaster to be a punishment for real or fictional crime. If children learn more about earthquakes, the fear and anxiety they suffer will become less and shorter. Please communicate frankly with children to help them overcome panic.

some advices:

* Explain to them that the earthquake is a natural disaster and not someone's fault.
* Talk to them about the natural disasters you have encountered, or read books about earthquakes.
* Encourage your child to express fear. Listen patiently and show understanding.
* Your child may require you to assure them through words and limbs: everything will return to normal. Tell your child that the disaster is only temporary.
* After the accident, you can let your child appear at the cleanup site. Let them see the family return to normal or join the job, which is a comfort to them.

Note: Anxiety symptoms may appear weeks or months after the earthquake and may affect people of any age. If this anxiety affects your family ’s daily life, please seek professional assistance through school instructors, community organizations, doctors or professionals who provide "mental health counseling".
