Columbini children's furniture with unsafe products is still on sale
Recently, the Shaanxi Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau released the results of a random inspection on children's furniture products. The findings revealed that the Columbine brand's bedside table model CV7743N failed to meet safety standards and was marked as unqualified. Despite the warning, this product was still being sold in Beijing as of November 13, raising concerns among consumers and regulators alike.
The inspection, which covered 17 companies and 18 batches of samples, found that 15 batches passed the quality tests, resulting in an overall pass rate of 83.3%. However, one of the notable failures came from Colombini Furniture (China) Co., Ltd., where the CV7743N bedside table failed the structural safety test, specifically related to edges and sharp corners. The inspection included checks on appearance, physical and chemical properties, structure, mechanical performance, stability, strength, formaldehyde emissions, and warning labels. Three batches of products were found non-compliant, with formaldehyde levels and structural safety being the main issues.
Despite the negative findings, the unqualified bedside cabinet was still available for sale at a store in Beijing. During a visit on November 11, it was discovered that the product was displayed without a price tag, making it difficult to identify its specifications. However, by checking the shopping guide, the model number CV7743N was eventually found. The guide pointed out a small blue bedside table, which had a two-tier design. The upper part was rounded, but the lower drawer had sharp edges. Additionally, the bedside table featured wheels, which could allow children to reach into the space underneath, potentially causing injury. This raises serious safety concerns, especially for young children who may not be aware of the risks involved.
As a result, parents are advised to be cautious when purchasing children's furniture and to check for proper safety certifications and clear labeling. It is also recommended that retailers remove such unsafe products from shelves immediately to prevent potential harm to children. The incident highlights the importance of continuous quality control and consumer awareness in ensuring the safety of children's products.
