Columbini children's furniture with unsafe products is still on sale
Recently, the Shaanxi Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau released the results of a random inspection on children's furniture products. The findings revealed that the Columbine brand, specifically the bedside table model CV7743N, failed to meet safety standards and was marked as unqualified. It was discovered that this particular product was still being sold in Beijing as of November 13, raising concerns about consumer safety.
The inspection, conducted by the Shaanxi Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau, involved 17 companies and 18 batches of samples. Out of these, 15 batches were found to be compliant, resulting in an overall pass rate of 83.3%. Among the tested items were appearance requirements, physical and chemical properties, structural integrity, mechanical performance stability, strength, formaldehyde emissions, and warning labels. Unfortunately, three batches of products did not meet the required standards, with issues primarily related to formaldehyde emissions and structural safety.
Columbine Furniture (China) Co., Ltd. was one of the companies involved, and its product model CV7743N failed the structural safety test, particularly concerning edge and corner sharpness. This has led to serious concerns about the potential risks this product may pose to children.
Despite the official notice from the quality supervision bureau, the non-compliant bedside cabinet was still available for sale in a store in Beijing. During a visit on November 11, it was observed that the product was displayed without a price tag, making it difficult to identify the exact model. However, after checking the shopping guide, the specification number CV7743N was finally located. The guide pointed out a small blue bedside table, stating, "This is it."
Upon closer inspection, the bedside table had a two-tier design, with the top layer rounded but the lower drawer having sharp edges. Additionally, the unit featured wheels, which could allow children to pull it toward them, increasing the risk of injury. This raises significant safety concerns, especially for young children who may not fully understand the dangers associated with such furniture.
As parents and consumers become more aware of product safety, it's essential that manufacturers and retailers take immediate action to remove unsafe products from the market. The continued sale of such items highlights the need for stricter enforcement of quality control measures and better consumer awareness.
