Because the ship is coated with its own characteristics, the ship paint should also have certain characteristics.

The sheer size of the ship determines that the ship's paint must be able to dry at room temperature. Paints that require heat drying are not suitable as marine paints.

The construction area of marine paint is large, so the paint should be suitable for high pressure airless spraying operations.

It is difficult to construct certain areas of the ship, so it is desirable to achieve a higher film thickness in one painting, so thick film type paint is often required.

The underwater part of the ship often needs cathodic protection. Therefore, the paint used for the underwater part of the hull needs to have good resistance to electric potential and alkali. Paints that use oil as a raw material or are modified with oil are prone to saponification and are not suitable for the production of paints below the waterline.

From the perspective of fire safety, the ship requires that the paint inside the cabin and the interior of the superstructure is not easy to burn, and will not emit excessive smoke once it is burned. Therefore, nitrocellulose lacquer and chlorinated rubber lacquer are not suitable as decorative paints for ship cabins.
