U.S. Examines Troops of Genetically Modified Wheat Leads Panic Experts Say No Need to Worry at Home

<

According to China Voices "News Horizons", a farmer in Oregon recently reported that he had found "resistant" wheat plants after using herbicides. Researchers confirmed after testing that these wheats may be linked to Monsanto's genetically modified herbicide-resistant wheat tested in Oregon between 1998 and 2005. This type of wheat is resistant to certain herbicides to simplify weed removal and increase yield. Once the news was aired, it caused panic in the world.

Monsanto was forced by the environmental groups in 2005 to abandon the large-scale planting and production of genetically modified wheat products in the United States. Tested wheat should have been cleared many years ago. After the incident, the U.S. government rushed to investigate how wheat was tested out of the experimental field. Japan cancelled the wheat purchase plan and the EU said it would strengthen monitoring.

Should wheat varieties that were extinct after the end of trial production in 2005 flow into China? Is the imported seed or wheat grain contaminated? The core question in the panic of more and more people participating in the GM wheat is “is it safe?” Can the answer make every one of us breathe a sigh of relief?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on the 29th that it had discovered an experimental transgenic product from Monsanto Biotech Inc. in the United States that had not been approved for sale. Monsanto developed wheat genetic technology many years ago, but because countries refused to accept such crops, they never put the seeds into production.

At the same time, it was reported that Monsanto's GM wheat contaminated wheat fields in Oregon. Oregon, on the west coast of the United States, borders northern California.

U.S. grain traders warn that the pollution message will hit the US wheat export market. I am afraid that it will allow countries to shift orders to countries such as Russia, Ukraine and Australia. The Monsanto company stated on the same day that if there is a Roundup Ready gene in wheat, there will be no relevant security concerns.

However, the reality is that wheat is a staple food for Westerners, so the U.S. has not yet approved any GMF varieties for GM wheat.

In order to eliminate people's doubts, the US Food and Drug Administration (USDA) stressed that there is no indication that GMF has entered the market.

Mr. Li Guoxiang, a researcher at the Institute of Rural Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, explained that corn and soybean genetic modification have been recognized as feed grains in the industry. However, genetically modified wheat has always been cautious and reserved.

Li Guoxiang: Of course, it is reasonable to adopt a cautious attitude. Wheat and rice are directly consumed, and they can be eaten directly after simple processing. Transgenic, currently unable to scientifically prove that it is being eaten by humans, will have an impact on the future survival of human beings.

The United States is the world’s largest wheat exporter. Asia imports 40 million tons of wheat each year, accounting for one-third of the world’s wheat trade. Other major Asian importers, such as China, South Korea and the Philippines, are closely watching developments. Due to concerns about food safety, the Japanese government cancelled an order for US wheat. The European media reported that about 80% of the U.S. wheat exports to the EU each year are the same soft white wheat as the GM wheat, and the EU will strictly inspect U.S. wheat imports.

According to statistics, China imported about 1.5 million metric tons of US wheat in the past two months. Will this illegally-based JI crops inflow into the Chinese market? And for the concerns of Chinese consumers, Li Guoxiang said.

Li Guoxiang: Most of the wheat imported by China is used for feed, and domestically produced wheat is enough for consumption. Genetically impossible. At the same time, some advanced wheats are not produced domestically, but the possibility of transgenes is relatively small. Chinese consumers do not have to worry too much.

Chain Link Netting is made of different wire: Low carbon steel black wire without any surface finish; Electro galvanized steel wire; hot-dipped galvanzied steel wire; PVC coated steel wire; Aluminum alloy wire and stainless steel wire. Hot-dipped galvanized has better corrosion resistance than electro galvanized, because the thickness of zinc coating is thicker. The Chain Link Fence is used as garden fences, decorative fences, expressway, railway, barbed wire fences etc.
