Strawberry Summer Management
During the summer, proper irrigation and drought prevention are essential for healthy strawberry seedling growth. It is important to maintain consistent moisture in the soil by watering regularly. The water should be poured up to 2/3 of the furrow, ensuring that the mulch surface remains dry. Avoid overwatering, as prolonged exposure to water can harm the roots. Watering is best done in the evening to minimize evaporation and reduce the risk of leaf diseases.
To protect the seedlings from high temperatures, shading is crucial. A shade cloth about one meter high should be placed over the planting area, and materials like firewood or other organic matter can be used on top to provide additional cooling. Alternatively, tall crops can be planted nearby to naturally provide shade.
During the process of stolon development and seedling emergence, it's important to guide the stolons into an even direction and lightly press them with soil to encourage root formation. This helps establish strong, healthy plants.
When weeding, avoid disturbing the roots of the strawberry plants to prevent damage or death. At the same time, remove any yellow or dead leaves to reduce nutrient loss and improve air circulation, which also helps prevent disease.
