Japan's Rijin Tools Co., Ltd. has developed CBN ball end mills and CBN arc end mills for processing high-grade molds. The performance characteristics and processing application examples are as follows.
1. CBN material properties CBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) material has a hardness of about 3 times that of cemented carbide materials, and the tool made of it can realize long-life processing. CBN materials have high hardness and are easily broken. When manufacturing small-diameter end mills that can achieve continuous high-precision machining for a long time, scientific grinding technology and tool design to prevent chipping are required.
2. Tool Features SSBL200 long neck CBN ball end mill is developed to meet the precision machining requirements of high hardness deep cavity. It uses a cutting edge shape that prevents chip edge chipping and reduces cutting load, enabling high-precision machining and long tool life. The R accuracy of the tool is ±0.005mm, and the effective length of the R0.05 to R1mm specification range is 0.3 to 10mm, and there are 23 specifications.
(2) SSR200 CBN arc edge end mill SSR200 CBN arc edge end mill is used for efficient and high-precision milling of molds. 3. Processing application examples (1) SSBL200 CBN ball end mill processing example 1 stopwatch mold processing R0.5 × 5L SSBL200 CBN ball end mills are used to finish milling the stopwatch mold cavity. The mold material is STAVAX (HRC52), and the processing time is about 1 hour and 30 minutes. After processing one mold cavity, the R portion wear amount is about 1 μm, and the machined surface roughness is Rz1.30 μm. Finishing can still be continued depending on the wear condition and surface roughness.
