In a recent announcement, the Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision released the findings from a quality inspection conducted in the fourth quarter of last year. The report highlighted serious issues with safety helmets used on construction sites, with nearly half of the tested items found to be non-compliant. This poses significant risks to workers' safety.
The inspection covered 17 different construction units, involving 20 batches of safety helmets. Only 50% of the samples passed the tests. Non-compliance was observed in several critical areas, including weight, vertical spacing, shell protrusions, and impact resistance. These defects not only increase the risk of neck strain and cervical spine injuries but can also lead to more severe consequences like suffocation or head trauma during accidents.
In addition to helmets, the bureau also tested 40 batches of steel pipe scaffold fasteners from distribution companies in Taiyuan City and Yuncheng. The pass rate for these products was 75%, with common problems including poor anti-slip performance and failure in anti-breakage tests. Such defects can cause the fasteners to loosen or break under pressure, creating dangerous conditions on construction sites.
On a more positive note, all 22 batches of cement products inspected from provincial manufacturers were found to be fully compliant, achieving a 100% pass rate. This indicates that the quality of cement products remains relatively stable and reliable.
In response to the identified issues, the Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau has instructed local quality control departments to take strict measures against companies producing or distributing substandard products, especially those involved in the production of unsafe helmets and scaffolding fasteners. These companies will be required to halt sales immediately, and the authorities will assist them in improving their manufacturing processes to ensure product safety and consumer satisfaction.

- **Delnai brand Y-type helmets**, distributed by Jinyuan District's Jiayuan Materials Distribution Department, made by Chongxian Hongfa Labor Protection Plastic Products Co., Ltd. – impact absorption performance was insufficient.
- **Sudian Star brand plastic safety helmets**, produced by Shanxi Sunlight Power Generation Co., Ltd., used by Xuzhou Riyuexing Plastics Industry Co., Ltd. – mandril belt strength and vertical spacing were non-compliant.
- **660 × 480 × 440 helmets**, manufactured by Henan Yuguang Gold Aluminum Group Co., Ltd., used by Changzhi Jingfang Coal Industry Co., Ltd. – lateral rigidity did not meet specifications.
