Daqing Petrochemical successfully developed automotive fuel tank materials
On July 18th, Daqing Petrochemical Company successfully launched a new DMDA6045 polyethylene fuel tank material, marking the first batch of automotive fuel tank products produced using an inorganic chromium catalyst and a gas-phase fluidized bed process. This development represents a significant step forward in the company’s efforts to innovate and expand its product portfolio.
The new material is a unimodal polyethylene with a broad molecular weight distribution, offering key advantages such as lightweight design, strong resistance to corrosion, flexibility in shaping, and enhanced safety performance. These properties make it ideal for manufacturing plastic fuel tanks for vehicles, where mechanical strength and ease of processing are essential.
Throughout the development phase, the Daqing Petrochemical Plastics Factory and the Daqing Chemical Research Center worked closely together. They focused on catalyst selection and process optimization, ensuring that all operational parameters were carefully calibrated. The Quality Inspection Center played a crucial role by conducting real-time analysis using instruments like densitometers and indexers. Every hour, they monitored sample indices, flow rate ratios, and color changes, while measuring density every two hours. In total, over 200 analyses were performed daily, ensuring strict quality control.
In addition, the production team underwent comprehensive training on topics such as brand switching, handling production challenges, risk management, and emergency response. After 48 hours of rigorous testing and adjustments, the first batch of 1,100 tons of the new material met industry standards. This successful launch not only expands Daqing Petrochemical’s market presence in the domestic high-density polyethylene sector but also strengthens its position as a leader in product innovation and technological advancement.
