Scientists explore Sino-U.S. cooperation to promote advanced nuclear energy applications

Science magazine recently published research by Cao Junji, researcher at the Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Armond Cohen, Clean Air Task Force, James Hansen, Professor at Columbia University, Richard Lester, professor at MIT, and professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Per Peterson and Xu Hongjie, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, co-signed the Policy Forum.

The paper discussed the current problems facing the world in climate warming, energy shortages, and air pollution in China, and discussed the possibility that nuclear energy, such as low-carbon energy, can contribute to solving these challenges, hoping to go through all aspects of China and the United States. Experts work together to accelerate the use of nuclear energy in both countries and even the world. Nuclear energy played an important role in solving the energy crisis in history. After the world’s first oil crisis in 1973, European and American countries vigorously developed nuclear energy (as shown in the figure below). For example, Sweden’s nuclear power development was at its peak during 1976-1986. Compared with the development trend of wind energy and solar energy in the countries of the world today, the development speed of nuclear energy in Sweden was several times to several decades.

The thesis discussion topics related to how to increase the speed of (reactor) scale construction, related economic issues, nuclear waste disposal, water resources utilization, and safety characteristics of nuclear reactors. The paper proposes how the actual and non-governmental participants in the two countries can cooperate through mutual action, mutual trust and mutual recognition, and jointly improve the feasibility of nuclear energy and make it a more suitable energy option. The paper proposes that future cooperation between China and the United States includes the screening of experimental project sites, the joint development of advanced nuclear energy technologies, and the development trend of future energy structures. The article proposes that the rapid popularization of nuclear energy between the two countries requires the establishment of a time frame and the strengthening of nuclear energy technology research and development and production cooperation. The establishment of closer cooperation between China and the United States has enormous potential value. This has important significance not only for the government and scientists, but also provides precious opportunities for cooperation between the innovators of the two countries. The current differences between the two countries can maximize the synergy effect of cooperation.

China and the United States are big energy-consuming countries and have an unshirkable responsibility for global greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, air pollution has become one of the major environmental problems in China. Therefore, the cooperation between China and the United States in nuclear energy can not only speed up the nuclear energy technologies of both parties. Development has made outstanding contributions to the use of nuclear energy in the two countries and the world, and has also provided important energy alternatives for China to cope with climate change and address air pollution.

Some customers mix the terms and concepts of license plate recognition (LPR) and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). Generally, LPR is used to describe surveillance cameras that are capable of capturing license plates clear enough for humans and machines to recognize. For example, if you record video to a DVR and go back to review footage, the license plates can be read. ANPR generally refers to software that can identify license plates and take some type of action such as recording the plate number to a database or matching the plate against a database list for access control (like opening a gate).
