The researchers say the findings prove that there are indeed planets in the universe that are rich in carbon and have diamonds or graphite continents. Nikki Madhusudhan, who led the study, said: "You might even see a mountain made entirely of diamonds."
Using the NASA Spitzer Space Telescope, the researchers captured the heat radiation from the planet 1200 light-years from Earth and calculated its atmospheric composition accordingly.
