There are three essential things people do every day: eating, sleeping, and using their hands. Among these, sleep is the most effective way to refresh your body and mind. The importance of sleep is well known, and it's closely tied to your bed. A good mattress is the key to a comfortable night’s rest. But how can you properly care for your mattress to ensure it lasts longer?

1. Avoid bending, folding, or tying the mattress tightly with ropes during handling. These actions can cause damage and reduce its lifespan.

2. Prevent uneven pressure on the mattress. Avoid standing on it for long periods or allowing children to jump on it, as this can lead to localized stress and weaken the structure over time.

3. Don’t sit on the edge of the mattress for extended periods. This can cause wear and tear in that area. It’s recommended to rotate the mattress regularly—flipping it up and down or end to end. For most families, rotating it every 3–6 months helps maintain even support.

4. Always use a mattress cover to protect it from dirt and stains. This makes cleaning easier and keeps the mattress hygienic. Remove any plastic packaging to allow proper ventilation and avoid moisture buildup. Never expose the mattress to direct sunlight for too long, as it may cause fading.

5. Rotate the mattress frequently, especially during the first year. Flip it right side up or turn the corners every 2–3 months to evenly distribute pressure on the springs. After that, flip it once every six months.

6. Keep the mattress clean by drying it regularly and using a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris. If there are stains, gently blot them with a paper towel or cloth. Never wash the mattress with water or soap, as this can damage the internal structure. Using sheets or a protective pad is also a good habit, and avoid lying on the bed immediately after bathing or sweating.

7. Avoid sitting on the edges of the mattress often. The corners are the weakest parts, and prolonged pressure can lead to loss of bounce and comfort.

8. Don’t jump on the bed, as this can cause sudden and excessive force on one spot, potentially damaging the mattress.

9. Some mattresses have ventilation holes along the edges. Make sure not to stretch the sheets or covers over these areas, as blocking the vents can hinder airflow and lead to mold or bacteria growth.

In addition to proper maintenance, choosing a high-quality mattress is crucial. Even the best care won’t compensate for poor construction. Invest in a reliable mattress from a trusted brand to enjoy better sleep and longevity.
