The German Science Foundation (DFG) recently presented the 2012 Leibniz Prize in Berlin. 11 German scientists from the life sciences, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences and engineering sciences received a total of 25 million euros in research funding. Three scientists in the field of natural sciences were awarded: Prof. Wulf Ribsell of the Leibniz Institute of Marine Science at Keele University, who was the first to seriously study how ocean acidification and warming affect marine life and ecology. System scientist; Professor Peter Sanders of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, as an internationally renowned expert in mathematical algorithms, he is a leader in European "algorithm engineering", especially in the design of the backbone network; Stuttgart University Professor Jorge Rach Trump, who first discovered the fluorescence of impurities (N-V center) in diamonds, set off the wave of optically detecting individual impurity atoms, and pioneered the intersection of solid state physics and quantum optics. A very successful new research area.
