The national foreign trade transformation and upgrading professional demonstration base initiative, launched by the Ministry of Commerce, aims to support and strengthen key export bases across the country. It is a crucial step in accelerating industrial upgrades and expanding exports. In April this year, the Ministry initiated the selection process for the second batch of these demonstration bases. By May 31st, a total of 114 applications were received from provincial commerce departments, with 58 projects successfully passing the evaluation.
Over recent years, the export of non-metallic materials such as petroleum ceramsite proppant, special bauxite cement, synthetic diamond, refractory materials, and abrasives has seen rapid growth. In 2011 alone, the city's non-metallic materials exports reached $110 million, and it is projected that annual exports will hit $150 million in the near future, representing an increase of over 70%.
According to available information, the Ministry of Commerce began identifying the first batch of national foreign trade transformation and upgrading demonstration bases in February 2011. A total of 94 applications were submitted by provincial commerce authorities, and in November of the same year, 59 projects were officially announced. Among them, the Phosphorus Chemical Industry Base in Fuquan City, Guizhou Province, was recognized as the first national demonstration base for foreign trade transformation and upgrading.
This achievement highlights Guiyang's growing importance in the national export strategy and signals a promising future for its non-metallic materials industry. With continued investment and policy support, the city is well-positioned to further expand its global trade footprint and contribute to the broader goal of economic transformation and sustainable development.
