The performance of a bearing device plays a crucial role in determining the accuracy, lifespan, and overall functionality of the bearing. Therefore, it is essential to fully understand the installation process and strictly follow the operating procedures outlined below. 1. Clean the bearing and its related components thoroughly. For grease-lubricated bearings with double-sided seals or dust covers, the seal rings do not need to be removed. 2. Check the dimensions and surface finish of the mating parts to ensure proper fit and function. 3. When installing the bearing, make sure the layout is correct based on the design specifications. The pressure should be applied directly to the end face of the inner ring, avoiding any direct pressure on the rolling elements. Common installation methods include: a. **Press Fit**: For tight fits between the inner ring and the shaft, press the inner ring onto the shaft first. Then, insert the shaft into the housing. Use a soft metal sleeve (such as copper or mild steel) to protect the inner ring during installation. The sleeve's inner diameter should be slightly larger than the journal, while the outer diameter should be smaller than the bearing's inner ring. b. **Heat Fit**: This method uses thermal expansion to reduce interference. Bearings or housings are heated in an oil bath at 80–100°C. After heating, quickly mount them onto the shaft. Avoid cooling before securing axially. For light metal housings, heating the housing can prevent surface scratches. Ensure the oil tank has a grid or hook to keep the bearing from touching the bottom and avoid uneven heating. Always monitor the temperature to stay below 100°C and prevent tempering effects that may reduce hardness. c. **Tapered Bearings**: These can be mounted directly on tapered journals or adapter sleeves. The tightness can be measured by the reduction in radial clearance. Measure the clearance before and during installation to ensure it meets the required specification. Lock nuts are commonly used for securing, but heating can also be employed. d. **Thrust Bearings**: Typically, the thrust bearing is installed with a transition fit on the shaft, and a clearance fit with the housing. For double-direction thrust bearings, the shaft spring must be fixed to the shaft to prevent rotation. In most cases, the inner ring is a tight fit, while the outer ring has a clearance fit. 4. After installation, check the bearing for smooth operation and ensure no foreign particles are present. 5. Apply the appropriate lubricant to maintain optimal performance.
